deidre's tat

One of deidre’s close friends asked her about her tattoo and it’s meaning. she thought that if He was asking others might want to know too, so here You/you go.

deidre’s tattoo is made of 2 symbols. The one in the middle is the Sanskrit symbol ‘om’ or ‘aum’ depending on how you prefer to spell it. The second, which flanks the om is a Celtic symbol which was at some point taken over by Christians and bastardized to apply to their own beliefs as so many other pagan things have been (Easter {celebration of Oestra}, the basis for Satan {the great horned god}, Christmas {Yule}, etc).

OM is the boat that enables one to cross over the rivers of fear and the sound of true love. It encompasses all potentialities and possibilities; it is everything that was, is, or can yet be. It is omnipotent and likewise remains undefined. OM moves the cosmic vital force and expresses the vital breath. It is beyond gross, subtle and causal bodies, beyond waking, dreaming and deep sleep states of consciousness.

In every breath, it is uttered, repeated unintentionally and inevitably. Every vibration in the body and in the universe emerges from it, sustains in it, and returns to it. Every humming emerges from OM, sustains in it and returns to it. A child cries, "OM, OM;" musicians hum, "OM, OM;" bees buzz, "OM, OM" the ocean roars, "OM, OM."

To an aching person, humming soothes; to an ailing person, OM cures. To a poet, it brings inspiration. To the philosopher, it brings realization.

OM is the consent for the Goddess to enter. It is the expression of the seer of Truth. OM is the wisdom and the sound of the Goddess. It is eternal, the indestructible Word. OM is the nectarian Goddess-soul union cord.

It’s the one quest of all the saints, the one search of all the scientists, the one Soul of all the souls. OM is the one Truth which is worshiped in diverse ways. It brings equilibrium and wisdom. OM is the root. It is the support. It pervades and sustains all. It brings peace, bliss and power. OM kills the ego, desires and doubt.

OM is the language of the Goddess, is expressed by the Goddess. OM is the Goddess.

The triquetta represents the triplicities of mind, body, and soul, as well as the three domains of earth- earth, sea, and sky. The triqueta symbolizes the triple aspected goddess (maid, mother, and crone)

At the time when deidre was designing her tat, she had just begun her studies of Wicca. While she has never gone through her dedication ceremony she considers many of the beliefs of Witchcraft to be her own and tries to live by the rede doing no harm to anyone or anything, mental, physical, spiritual etc. The fact that there is a symbol that means deidre’s body, mind and soul are equal to the maid, mother and crone who are equal with the forces of earth, sea and sky is a very powerful thought. In fact, it essentially means that all things in nature are equal, that all of the energies that create our environment, our bodies, our minds, our perceptions and actions are equal. What better to display on your body than that belief?
